Born to Ewart Sr. and Helene Brown of Flatts, the Premier
attended primary and secondary schools in Bermuda. In 1966, he represented
Bermuda at the Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica where he ran the 400
meters and 1600 meter relay.
After choosing to continue his education in
the U.S., Ewart Brown graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C. with a
B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry. Four years later, he received his M.D. from Howard
College of Medicine. He also earned a M.P.H. with an emphasis on Child Health,
Maternal family Population Control and International Health from the University
of California at Los Angeles.
Premier Brown is a community-minded, internationally acclaimed physician, who
spent many years practicing medicine in the U.S. as Medical Director of Bermuda
HealthCare Services, Premier Brown endeavors to provide Bermuda with efficient
and cost-effective health care. His political career has been a fulfilling one,
spanning more than three decades.
On October 27, 2006, Dr. the Hon
Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP, was elected by the ruling Progressive Labour Party
Government to be the leader of the Party and the leader of the Country. On
October 30, 2006, he was sworn in as the Party's third Premier, succeeding the
Hon. W. Alexander Scott JP, MP.
He has proven to be a counselor and
friend to people across the party lines and particularly as a supporter of young
people wishing to further their education.
