Janet was sorely missed. I understand her stance. Even in corporate america its hard to take ish from 20somethings with limited experiences being your boss. Of course hindsight is 20/20 and she now sees she should have been more patient but sometimes you gotta stand up for yourself. I'm sure he decision hurt her professionally but on some level her self respect is intact.

@barbara: guess you don't watch One Life to Live? She has a role on there now. I have to agree though, she comes off as very bitter and angry, after all of these years. She really needs to let go of that anger.

Janet as Aunt Viv was ok, but I always felt she was stuffy and stiff for the role. I liked the new Aunt Viv, As mentioned before $$$talks and Aunt Viv walks.The show was built around the Will Smith character, and I havent heard any movies bringing in $$$starring Janet Hubert..So u know u move on..She still looks good...

Actually, there are three sides to every story; his side, her side, and what really happend. I too was unhappy when Janet was no longer on the show. However, hollywood moves on; and quickly. We may never know all of the details behind her being "let go" but we do know that letting her go was a mistake. How many great actressess and actors have been "let go" over the years due to their unwillingness to do a jig, buck their eyes, or smile showing every tooth in their head... was this any different?

I also missed the original "Aunt Viv". The show did suffer because Ms. Hubert put her stamp on the character by incorporating elements of herself that no one else could re-create 100%. The sassy personality she gave the character was a great balance to Uncle Phil's character. It represented so many women who were successful, but at the same time were not above snatching off their earrings when it was time to throw down. That will be part of the show's legacy forever. No disrespect to Daphne Reid because she does not deserve it. She has always been a classy actress and she accepted a rare opportunity to play a positive Black mom on TV. However, they put her in a difficult position, because the confidence and sassiness of the character were snuffed out after the baby. So even if she had tried to pick up the role where Ms. Hubert left off, they did not give her the tools to do so. The show's storylines did not showcase anything that "Aunt Viv" was going through as an individual, only her dialogue as it related whatever the other characters were going through.

I TOO MISSED JANET.....THE SHOW JUST WASN'T THE SAME.
PEOPLE FORGET THAT IT'S NOT ONE CHARACTER THAT MAKES THE SHOW; IT'S THE ENTIRE CAST.......(writers, directors, producers etc.). DO YOU THINK THE SHOW WOULD HAVE BEEN FUNNY WITH JUST WILL SMITH.....HELL NO!!!!....THE ENTIRE CAST (pre the new mom) WAS HILLARIOUS. CARLTON(Alphonso R.- was JUST AS FUNNY AS WILL. EACH CHARACTER BROUGHT SOMETHING DIFFERENT AND JANET'S CHARACTER BROUGHT-INTELLIGENCE, STRENGTH, AND CONFIDENCE...MUST I CONTINUE.

I didn't like the change at all, especially since the new Aunt Viv didn't work and wasn't as cultured. It would be different if the woman changed, but the character changed as well and that was unfortunate. The original Aunt Viv was a woman I could look up to. She was the new Claire Huxtable. They could have at least developed the new Aunt Viv's character a bit. The only thing I remember her doing was complain a lot and talk about Phil losing weight. Other than that, who was she?

It just seems like a business situation that didn't work out due to major misunderstandings. I understand how annoyed Janet must have felt, but at the same time, we can't hold on to anger. It's not healthy. You can almost feel the steam seaping from her pores. Will has evolved into an amazing figure in Hollywood, which is amazing for an African-American actor, but we have to remember, Will isn't perfect. He's only human & only 1 has walked on water.

I agree that Janet was excellent as the mom, and also that Daphne Reid was just not funny at all. I really missed Janet and never felt the show was the same after she was gone! When I found out she was basically fired (tho it was described as failed contract negotiations), I was disgusted. I had always liked Will Smith, but I was disappointed that he seemed to have developed a "swelled head" and wanted to be worshiped by the other actors. I guess Janet, being a strong-willed woman, could not stoop low enough to please him. Sad. A great show, with a fine BLACK cast, I feel, ruined by an inflated ego! At least it seems Will has grown up, maybe now he will apologize..........but, Janet, Don't hold your breath!!!

Why do people keep bringing up skin color? The girl on My Wife and Kids' parents didn't want her doing a role on that show that included a friend who got pregnant early. It wasn't colorism.

I too missed Janet. It should not be forgotten. Be nice to people on your climb up the ladder, you will meet them on your way down. Janet statement should be in every conract and marriage vows.

Janet was perfect for the part, a real sister, classy, funny, educated and a motherly figure, Daphne Reid was boring and not funny at all. But Janet made the mistake of getting pregnant, why not do it after the show was done, (where she would have free time, and it would not effect her figure and personality). Why wait until you get a big break and ruin it, Lisa Bonet, Phylicia Rashad, got pregnat while doing Cosby, why, Tisha Campbell waited until she was cast on "Wife and Kids" why, it would been best for all these women to wait until these shows were done where they have more time to raise kids and not effect the chemistry on these shows, I mean what was these women doing before shows like Bill Cosby etc., that most actresses would of died to have been a part of.

I'm very interested to hear what she has to say. I love Will and Janet on the screen together. I really hated when Janet left the show. It's too bad that it didn't work out. I thought there was some good chemistry. I guess that's just acting. Well it is old news, but there are still tons of re-runs for the new generation to watch. They will notice the cast change too.

I agree with Tami about the skin color. A lot of people thought the same thing. It seems that we still discriminate against each other.
Notice the same thing happened on My Wife and KIds. First the daughter was a little darker, then here comes the other daughter. Speak up, and don't let the industry tell you to hire a light skinned person if the one you have is doing a great job. Oh and Will we saw your interview on Oprah. It seems that Jada and your first wife has a history. You all couldn't cover that up good enough, it was so obvious, a child could read through you all. . Hopefully it'll get better with time and respect. Sad.

vivian was the best actress on the set ,classy and always professional .Daphne would have to be born again .Hubert obviously can often be immitated never never duplicated. The show definately lost its appeal afetr she left.

This is something that's been discussed for a long time but I am glad that she is getting the opportunity to tell her side of things. Daphne Reid (her replacement) wasn't tacky, but she didn't bring that same "kick" to the roll that Janet did....that's just MO.
While I like Will, that doesn't mean that I am dismissing the possibility that he could have been behaving "diva-like". Not dismissing that she was being difficult (which I recall her mentioning). He may have had certain expectations that she wasn't going to give in to because she saw it for what it was. That's the difference between 22 and 38 yrs old.
Many of us have situations at work where there is a bit of drama going on, and we don't participate. If you keep to yourself and come in to conduct your business then you aren't friendly. In those instances, how many of those have you seen get fired or treated indifferently for choosing not to go along with the masses?
Just think it's along the same lines here.
I love that she said if she was expected to kiss [beep] it should have been in the contract. I say the same thing about the "friend expectation" at work - it ain't in the job description, so all bets are off.

Personally, reading these posts, I don't see what the problem is with her telling her side of the story. I always thought they replaced her because she was dark skin, since so called Hollywood seemed to have a problem with skin color that was darker than creamed coffee, and that may or may not have been the reason. I'm pretty sure that Janet has not lost sleep since. In my opinion, if Will Smith had class, he wouldn't have had to make jokes on radio and add insult to injury. She seems to me someone that has no problem speaking up for herself, and certain people in this world can't handle that. I say go ahead Janet, tell people how it really went down. If you can't handle the truth, then don't watch.

No one is asking anyone to kiss their [beep] but she should remember why there was a show in the first place it wasn't because of her. This show was created around Will and he is the bankable actor not her. If it were otherwise then she could be the diva that she pretends to be. who is at the top of the game now. What exactly is her point, Will is not the reason she still didn't do well even after. IT ONLY GOES TO SHOW WHO IS BANKABLE AND WHO IS NOT. Go take care of your family and keep your one hit wonder position. You, do not become a billion dollar star in hollywood unless your good at what you do, especially being a black man. I guess she wants to set the record straight what really went down, concerning her replacement, and how wrong it was, and how it was done! There is nothing wrong with that, so what, it's old news, but it's new, news about what really went down, which I did not know about! Will Smith, all he cares about is himself, and his family, and do not give a damn about everyone else. What goes around, come right back to you. He may be riding high now, but will see him on his way down. That was wrong what he did to aunt Viv, why would he replace her just because he was making movies!!

i stopped watching fresh prince after i noticed aunt viv wasnt on it anymore....and im sure alot of other people did too.....it just wasnt the same, the new aunt viv was TACKY!
